What is it like to live and work outside the United States? In this episode, Joi and Jane Mitchell tell us about their experiences living abroad in Korea and the UK. We also talk about shifts in careers, national identity, and culture.

Dr. Joi Mitchell is Originally from Detroit, Michigan. She received her bachelor’s and master’s degree from the AUC center. She also holds a Ph.D. from Capella University. Her first career was a psychotherapist specializing in LGBTQ issues. In 2015, she transitioned to work full time as a school counselor for the Department of Defense, where she worked 3 years in South Korea. She currently works at Lakenheath Middle School in the UK.

Jane Mitchell is originally from Murfreesboro, Tennessee. She is an Army veteran where she was a behavior science specialist. Upon leaving the military, she worked for the United States Postal Service for 18 years. Currently, she is a certified personal trainer in the UK doing in person and online training. Joi and Jane have been together for six years, and have been married for four years.
